The Book of Your Life

Chapter 1: Let's Read!

   “Professor Dumbledore . . .” Harry began.

He did not know what to say first: how sorry he was that he had started the DA in the first place and caused all this trouble, or how terrible he felt that Dumbledore was leaving to save him from expulsion? But Dumbledore cut him off before he could say another word.

“Listen to me, Harry,' he said urgently. “You must study Occlumency as hard as you can, do you understand me? Do everything Professor Snape tells you and practise it particularly every night before sleeping so that you can close your mind to bad dreams - you will understand why soon enough, but you must promise me – “

The man called Dawlish was stirring. Dumbledore seized Harry's wrist.

   "Remember - close your mind – "

But as Dumbledore's fingers closed over Harry's skin, a pain shot through the scar on his forehead and he felt again that terrible, snakelike longing to strike Dumbledore, to bite him, to hurt him -

“ - you will understand,” whispered Dumbledore.

Fawkes circled the office and swooped low over him. Dumbledore released Harry, raised his hand and grasped the phoenix's long golden tail. There was a flash of fire and the pair of them were gone.

A split second later, there was a second flash of fire and Harry felt his feet part with the ground. He was spinning through a vortex of fire. He had no clue what was happening. But before he could think of what happened, the fire disappeared and he landed on his feet and looked around to see a room which was filled with many chairs and sofas surrounding a table in the centre.

“Don’t move Potter”, Professor McGonagall said sharply. She seemed to have reached this room along with Harry.

A second later Professor Dumbledore arrived in a flash of fire, a wary expression on his face.

   “Albus, what –“

Professor McGonagall was cut of as Ron, Hermione, Neville, Ginny, Fred and George arrived in yet another flash of fire. Harry went to them.

Before anyone could speak, there were many more flashes of fire and Professor Snape, Hagrid, Sirius, Remus, Moody, Tonks, Bill, Charlie, Mr. and Mrs. Weasley, Percy and Malfoy arrived.

Malfoy glared at the golden trio and walked up to Snape. All the Weasley children glared at Percy who ignored them with his nose in the air.

After everyone digested their surroundings, a babble of confused conversation broke out loudly. It took several sparks from Dumbledore’s wand to calm everyone down.

With a final flash of a brilliant gold fire, seven books and a letter appeared on the table.

Dumbledore cautiously approached the table and did many complex spells to check for dark magic. After confirming that everything was safe, he unsealed the letter and began to read it.

Dear Harry, Ron, Hermione, Neville, Ginny, Fred, George, Professors Dumbledore, McGonagall, Snape, Hagrid, Lupin and Moody, Sirius, Tonks, Bill, Charlie, Mr. and Mrs. Weasley, Percy and Draco (a.k.a. everyone),

I have sent seven books to you. These are about Harry Potter’s seven years at Hogwarts. They are:

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Harry Potter and the Prisioner of Azkaban

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

In the future, Voldemort has been destroyed, but many innocent lives have been lost in the cause. These books will tell you how to defeat Voldemort once and for all and you can also evade many of these deaths.

You will not be permitted to leave this room until all the books have been read. You do not need to worry about your food and lodging; it will be taken care of.

I also request you to not judge anyone until you have read all the seven books. Remember, things are not what they always seem.

More people may join you in reading the books later.

After reading these books, you can decide what to do. If you do not want to change the future, all your memories will be modified and no one will remember these books. But if you do wish to change the future, you will all remember everything about these books.

The power to change the future lies in your hands (literally). Please, use it well.

Best of luck,

A friend.

The letter was greeted with a stunned silence. Then –

“Well then, let us begin reading these books. Who would like to read first?” asked Professor Dumbledore.

“May I read Professor?” Hermione asked excitedly.

“Certainly Miss Granger” said Dumbledore, giving Hermione the first book. “Now, let us begin.”

Chapter 5: New Entires and Conversations

A door appeared on Dumbledore’s right. He was just about to open it when there was yet another flash of fire in the center of the room, bringing in two more people.

“Mum! Dad!” exclaimed Hermione, running over to them

“Hermione! Where are we? What’s happening?”

Just then a note appeared out of thin air and landed on Dumbledore’s hat. With a chuckle, he brought the note to eye level and read it aloud.

Dear everyone,

I have decided to bring Mr. and Mrs. Granger here for them to read the books as well. They may not be able to change the future, but they have a right to know about their daughter’s life.

Also, I forgot to mention something earlier. This room works like the Room of Requirement. Everything you desire, including food will appear here on request. (Yes, even food. This room doesn’t follow the Principal Exceptions to Gamp’s Law of Elemental Transfiguration.)

If any of you have any more doubts or need anything, you can just think about your question and I will answer it.

I hope you’re enjoying the reading. I’m sorry for causing so much of an inconvenience to you, Harry.

Regards,

Your friend.

Hermione then went over to her parents to explain everything that was happening. She also filled them in with all the things mentioned in the book.

Mr. and Mrs. Granger were furious. How could the Dursleys treat an innocent child like that?

“Hermione, I want you to tell me about every little detail of the Dursleys treatment to Harry. If we have enough information and proof, we might manage a strong case against them,” said Mr. Granger.

Hermione beamed at her father and began telling them everything she knew.

Meanwhile, Sirius, Remus and Harry were waiting for Dumbledore to speak. There was an aura cold fury emanating from his face.

However, when he spoke, it was with a gentle, almost small, voice.

“Harry, I want to apologise to you for sending you to the Dursleys. I never expected for you to be treated this way. When your aunt took you in, I thought that the Dursleys had decided to look past their hatred of magic and raise you as their own…I now realise how incorrect I was. I am sorry.”

“As sorry as you may be, it doesn’t change the fact that Harry had to live a horrible life for so many years!” said Sirius roughly. Remus angrily nodded in agreement.

“Which is why I have called you here,” said Dumbledore. “I want to make amends for all the damage I have done.

“Harry, you do not need to live with the Dursleys any more.”

A stunned silence met these words.

   “A-are you sure?” croaked Harry.

“Yes indeed. I do not want the Dursleys to be around you any more. Now onwards, you may live with your Godfather and honorary uncle…If that suits you of course,” added Dumbledore, looking at Sirius and Remus.

“Of course it suits us!” exclaimed Remus happily. “But where do we live? And what about the full moon? It wouldn’t be safe for Harry. And will the ministry approve –“

“Calm down Remus. I have thought about all this while we were reading the previous chapter. Harry can live with you and Sirius in Grimmauld place until Sirius’s name has been cleared. With the wolfsbane potion, you shall be of no danger to anyone. As for the ministry, I daresay that they will know a thing. They can think that Harry will continue to live at the Dursleys. You need not worry about anything else. I shall take care of it all.”

   “Professor…thank you,” said Harry sincerely.

Dumbledore smiled at him gently, the twinkle in his eyes returning ever so slightly. “No Harry, I should thank you for showing me my error in leaving you with the Dursleys…I shall have a word with the Dursleys and see to it that they are rightly awarded for all their deeds.”

Sirius and Remus beamed. Then Sirius did something unexpected. He ran over to Dumbledore and hugged him.

   “Thank you so much…”

Without realizing where their feet were carrying them, Remus and Harry hugged Dumbledore as well.

After breaking apart, Dumbledore smiled at them all and left the room, successfully hiding his moist eyes.

“You know, even though Dumbledore said he’d handle the Dursleys, we should pay them a little visit,” said Sirius thoughtfully.

   “Agreed,” said Remus.

The three of them then walked back into the main room.

Ron and Hermione ran up to Harry.

   “What happened?” asked Hermione.

Grinning like a maniac, Harry told them everything.

“That’s excellent mate!” said Ron happily.

“And guess what? My parents said that they would try and get a Muggle case against the Dursleys!” said Hermione excitedly.

“What?” Harry asked uneasily. He hated the Dursleys and the way they treated him, but he wasn’t sure if they deserved such brutal treatment.

Hermione, sensing the uneasiness in her friend’s voice said, “Don’t worry Harry. Its your decision. My parents won’t file a case if you don’t want them to.”

“Yeah,” added Ron. “You can think about it and figure out what you want to do with the walrus family.”

Harry laughed. “Fine. I’ll think about it.”

The gratitude that shone through Harry’s eyes did not need any translation. His best friends understood.

The three of them gleefully returned to their seats and told everyone about Harry leaving the Dursleys for good. Everyone had broad smiles on their faces after that.

“How about we wrap up for today? We can celebrate with dinner and continue reading tomorrow morning,” Mrs. Weasley suggested.

   Everyone agreed.

After a scrumptious dinner, everyone thought of a place to sleep and many doors appeared on the walls. There were enough bedrooms for every person to have their own.

Slowly, people trailed of to their bedrooms.

Harry couldn’t believe his luck. He was actually leaving the Dursleys for ever. Maybe these books aren’t that bad after all...
