Bubbles

In the rut of life, people often forget to stop and look at the small things, diminishing their significance to mere trivialities.

I was recently preoccupied with my academic performance and worries about the future when walking along a road. That trail of thought soon turned toward the deplorable condition of the roadside and other such unsavoury thoughts; I was suddenly brought out of my sullen trance as I turned around to look at what I had missed – soap bubbles.

A poor lady selling bubble solution was trying to draw in customers by blowing bubbles, which shone in peaceful and calming colours. Somehow, almost magically, these little orbs had a cathartic effect on their surroundings. The people nearby looked happy and tranquil; so different from the serious and agitated faces normally encountered. I realised that this poor lady was doing a beautiful deed; she was sharing her happiness, however limited, with everyone else.

I smiled and turned to walk away, but stopped almost immediately. This lady was working so hard; the least I could do for her was to buy her bubble solution. As I walked away after a purchase which brought a big smile to both our faces, I turned back and saw a beautiful world. I reached home, a happier person.

The bubbles and the lady selling them had such a wonderful effect on so many lives, showing us just how important the little things are. Even the lady, in her limited capacity, was nothing short of an unsung hero. She brought out the best in herself and the people around her.
